Father’s Day Ballet

Yesterday, March 19th, was Father’s Day here in Portugal. So, this week, at Backstage, we have Father’s Week. The students can bring their fathers to class. I must admit I wasn’t expecting anything because I teach ballet and we all know how difficult it can be to convince a man to go to a ballet class. But, I guess, all it takes is their daughters smiles because, my Baby Class today was full of little ballerinas and their parents.

It was really fun to see some of them really scared as they were walking in the classroom. I had to assure them they wouldn’t do pirouettes or splits. I just told them that, in a pas de deux, a man’s job is to make the women shine brighter so, their job was to make their little girls shine!

What a fun class it was… Fathers emerged into my fairytale class and really commited to make their daughters happy, they helped them walk, skip, run, jump, fly… And the girls couldn’t be more happy!! It was such an amazing class, a great experience, for me as a teacher, and also for the girls and their parents.

In the end, as I give them stickers for good behavior, they also wanted to reward their fathers 😉

Feeling inspired…

A week ago I went to see the new movie, “La La Land” … I confess that it took me a long time to understand the fact that it was nominated for so many prizes.I do consider the great artists that worked on this film and it was really good on so many levels. I just didn’t think it was THAT good…
But there was a detail of the film that captivated me, which filled my heart, which inspired me: the musi!! Phenomenal! Excellent work by Justin Hurwitz, superb musicality and sensitivity … I may not have found “La La Land” the movie of the year, but the soundtrack is definitely the best I’ve ever heard. I have not tired of listening to the full album yet, and every day I feel inspired in different ways. Thank you so much to the artists who are able to touch us in the depth of our hearts and souls.

Foolish as they may seem

Here’s to the hearts that ache

Here’s to the mess we make”
