Father’s Day Ballet

Yesterday, March 19th, was Father’s Day here in Portugal. So, this week, at Backstage, we have Father’s Week. The students can bring their fathers to class. I must admit I wasn’t expecting anything because I teach ballet and we all know how difficult it can be to convince a man to go to a ballet class. But, I guess, all it takes is their daughters smiles because, my Baby Class today was full of little ballerinas and their parents.

It was really fun to see some of them really scared as they were walking in the classroom. I had to assure them they wouldn’t do pirouettes or splits. I just told them that, in a pas de deux, a man’s job is to make the women shine brighter so, their job was to make their little girls shine!

What a fun class it was… Fathers emerged into my fairytale class and really commited to make their daughters happy, they helped them walk, skip, run, jump, fly… And the girls couldn’t be more happy!! It was such an amazing class, a great experience, for me as a teacher, and also for the girls and their parents.

In the end, as I give them stickers for good behavior, they also wanted to reward their fathers 😉

Simple words

Messages, words, simple gestures that make all the difference and makes us feel so special. Like this message a student left me on my birthday:

The kind of words that let is know that everything we work for is really appreciated. And what a feeling comes from such simple words… Thank you!

Giving and Receiving

Yesterday was my birthday! It was a really great day, with lots of love from my friends and family and some surprises from my students 🙂 i’m very blessed for having the life I have!

This cake was a surprise from my students at the kindergarden! You can see the teacher (that’s me) and the students dancing around…
But, today, among all the joy and happiness that I had, I received a letter that made me even happier…

This letter is from Associação de Apoio à Criança (which is an association that helps children in need) and it thanks me (my school, Escola de Dança de Papillon) and my students for our donation, telling us that we gave the children a better christmas 🙂 Our christmas show was to raise funds for this association and we made it!! Nothing makes me more happier and I think my students will also love this thank you note 🙂

I would like to leave here my personal thank you to my family and friends who really made my day with their love and care! (the beautifull picture was my father’s gift. He is a great photographer and that’s me in my last show. The drawing is from a great friend of mine)
